Training camp is where players compete, sharpen timing, and grind for roster spots. But on Thursday morning at Ray Nitschke Field, Packers QB Jordan Love gave fans a moment they’ll never forget — and it had nothing to do with stats.
After throwing a deep touchdown to Bo Melton during a team drill, Love jogged slowly toward the end zone, raised both hands to the sky, then pointed to his chest.
No celebration. No trash talk. Just silence… and a glance above.

💬 “This One Was For You, Buddy”
Reporters at practice didn’t catch the meaning — until Jordan Love spoke during post-practice media availability, and emotions quickly overwhelmed the room.
“There was a guy I played with in college. Passed away last week. One of the best teammates I ever had — the kind of guy who never made the headlines, but made all of us better. Today felt like he was here.”
While Love didn’t initially name the player, sources close to the team later confirmed he was referring to former Utah State teammate Devin Centers, who tragically passed in a car accident just days earlier.
🕊️ The Team Responded With Respect
“You could feel it,” said WR Romeo Doubs. “That huddle after the touchdown — nobody said a word. It wasn’t about football anymore.”
Head Coach Matt LaFleur, normally laser-focused on drills, reportedly walked over to Love, gave him a pat on the shoulder, and simply said: “That meant something today.”

The team finished practice without music, and many players stayed late after to share stories or write initials of fallen teammates on their gear.
❤️ “He’d Want Us to Keep Ballin’”
Love closed his interview with this message:
“Life’s short, man. Football’s a gift. So is friendship. This one’s for every teammate we’ve lost but never forgotten.”
It was a rare glimpse behind the helmet — a reminder that even in the most competitive environment, the NFL is still about human stories, and Jordan Love’s leadership continues to grow in ways that go far beyond the stat sheet.
