Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is firing back after taking a hit in the NFL’s annual preseason head coach rankings. Following a turbulent 2024 season that ended in disappointment for the Packers, LaFleur found himself dropping several spots on the widely circulated list — but the 44-year-old coach isn’t losing sleep over it.

In a press conference that quickly made headlines, LaFleur didn’t mince words.
“Laughable. That’s what it is,” he said when asked about the rankings. “I’ve been in this league long enough to know that lists like these are nothing but noise. It doesn’t impact how we prepare, how we coach, or how we build this team.”
The Packers, once a model of consistency under LaFleur’s leadership, stumbled in 2024 amid injuries, inconsistent quarterback play, and a defense that struggled in key moments. The dip in form led to intensified scrutiny — and, apparently, a drop in national perception. But LaFleur insists that the only rankings that matter are the ones in December and January.
“I don’t coach for approval ratings,” he continued. “I coach for that locker room. I coach for Green Bay. And we’re going to respond.”

Sources inside the organization say the comments have lit a fire within the team heading into training camp. With quarterback Jordan Love entering a critical year and young stars on both sides of the ball eager to bounce back, the Packers seem to be embracing an underdog mentality — one LaFleur isn’t shying away from.
“We’ve been doubted before,” he said. “That’s nothing new. But doubt us at your own risk.”
With the preseason approaching, the spotlight is firmly on Green Bay — and LaFleur has made one thing clear: he’s not interested in rankings. He’s interested in results.
